Carlee Russell, a 25-year-old nursing student, has safely returned home after mysteriously disappearing two days ago. She arrived back at her family’s residence in Hoover around 10:45 p.m., prompting a call to Hoover 911.
Hoover Police Chief Nick Derzis confirmed that Russell arrived alone and was subsequently transported to a hospital for a medical check-up.
The circumstances surrounding her disappearance and her whereabouts during the missing period remain unclear. The police have assured that more details will be shared as they become available.
Prior to her disappearance, Russell was reportedly on her way home from work and had stopped to pick up dinner when she noticed a young child on Interstate 459.
She decided to stop and offer help, even making a 911 call. She was on a call with her brother’s girlfriend who reported hearing Russell scream before the call was filled with the sounds of traffic.
Earlier in the evening, police were dispatched to the Red Roof Inn on Montgomery Highway in Vestavia Hills after Russell’s family claimed to have received a call from her, stating she was there. However, it seems she was not found at that location.
The incident began on Thursday when Russell left her part-time job at The Woodhouse Spa at the Summit. She stopped at Taziki’s at the Colonnade to pick up food for herself and her mother.
She then called Hoover 911, reporting that she saw a toddler walking alone on the side of I-459. After making the call, she stopped to check on the child and called a family member. The call was abruptly ended after the family member heard Russell scream.
Russell’s car was later found running but empty, with some of her belongings scattered nearby. Neither Russell nor the child she reported seeing were found in the area. The police had not received any other reports of a missing child.
This is an ongoing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
