A video recently went viral of TWICE members Sana and Jihyo appearing to share a kiss on stage during the group’s concert in Mexico City. The clip sparked excitement and debate among fans about whether the kiss was real or just clever fanservice.
TWICE held two sold-out concerts at Mexico City’s Foro Sol stadium on February 2nd and 3rd as part of their ongoing world tour. Over 100,000 fans attended the energetic shows, which featured hit songs like “Signal” and “Likey” as well as sweet moments between the nine members.
In the short video clip, Jihyo can be seen smiling and interacting with a camera during the performance.
Sana then rushes over to her and grabs her face, tilting her head to the side.
Sana leans in close so that it looks like she plants a kiss directly on Jihyo’s lips. Jihyo responds by throwing her arms around Sana and hugging her back enthusiastically.
The moment happened quickly, but it was enough to send fans into a frenzy. Soon the hashtag #SaHyo was trending as people excitedly discussed the supposed kiss between the two TWICE members.
Many fans initially believed the kiss was real, leading to celebratory and surprised reactions. The close relationship between Sana and Jihyo is well-known among fans, but an onstage kiss seemed unprecedented.
The term “fanservice” also began trending, as the kiss seemed like an extreme version intended to excite fans. Others praised it as a genius moment of fan engagement.
Fanservice refers to creative moments specifically intended to excite loyal fans during concerts and events. Having fun with ship names and pairings is one common fanservice tactic.
Stirring up relationship speculation remains taboo for idols in Korea. However, playfully hinting at chemistry is often viewed as fair game, especially while touring abroad.
However, once the initial shock wore off, fans began analyzing the video more closely. Some shared clips of the moment from different angles to get to the bottom of whether the kiss actually occurred.
When viewed from alternate camera angles, it became clearer that Sana and Jihyo staged the moment to look like a kiss without their lips actually touching.
One trending tweet showed a zoomed-out view revealing a gap between Sana and Jihyo’s faces. Other fans also shared the original, unedited clip that showed the “kiss” was a quick fake-out.
Seeing the additional angles helped fans realize the kiss was likely choreographed by Sana and Jihyo to thrill fans rather than being an unplanned, spur-of-the-moment decision.
Many fans praised the fake-out moment as an example of TWICE’s willingness to push boundaries and surprise fans. Even without an actual kiss, the clever near-miss was impactful.
As one of TWICE’s most popular pairings, the playful chemistry between Sana and Jihyo has long enthralled fans. The two have showcased their friendship through countless sweet interactions over the years.
Jihyo’s role as TWICE’s leader makes her close with all the members. As one of the group’s mood makers though, Sana likely shares an especially vibrant, cheerful dynamic with Jihyo behind the scenes.
JYP Entertainment did not issue an official statement on the viral concert moment. Without any complaints from TWICE members themselves, the company likely did not view it as problematic.
Given the generally positive response, Sana and Jihyo’s cheeky fanservice proved successful. It created buzz while showcasing the pair’s chemistry and further strengthening their bond with supportive fans.
